Philosophy & CurriculumA self-guided curriculum shaped by children's interests, guided by Te Whāriki and the principle of Āta.
Our programme is based on the principles of respect, responsibility and community — inviting children to learn through exploration and discovery in a supportive, enriching environment shaped by their own interests through a self-guided curriculum.
Core to our philosophy is an environment that is rich in children's learning opportunities. We're proud not only of our challenging, natural physical environment, but also of the interactional environment — the social relationships within it — and the temporal environment of gentle routines and unhurried time that we strive to provide.
Our work with tamariki is guided by Te Whāriki, the national early childhood curriculum. Within it sits a philosophy embedded in the Māori principle of Āta — which asks that we deliver every aspect of our programme with sensitive, respectful and deliberate interactions.
Our kaiako model the principles we aspire to, so that children can learn foundational life skills within a caring and responsive environment.
"Respect, responsibility and community — learned through exploration and discovery."
Being a mixed-age centre means tamariki of all ages play and learn together, embracing the concept of tuakana–teina, where older children mentor younger ones. Although children aren't separated by age, we provide spaces that suit different physical abilities, with a wide range of age-appropriate play resources.
Quiet spaces and busy-activity spaces, both inside and out, mean there's always somewhere that's just right for every child.
Sensitive, deliberate interactions with every child, every day.
Children empowered to make decisions and solve problems for themselves.
